Personal Project

Grants

Applications for Fall 2025 have closed.

We will re-open applications for Spring 2026 in late November.

Have an idea for a project, but need some materials?

Have an idea you’re ready to build, but need materials the Foundry doesn’t stock? The Weissman Foundry offers Personal Project Grants each semester to help students across the BOW Collaborative (Babson, Olin, and Wellesley) take the next step toward making something real.

These small grants are designed to remove barriers and give you access to the right materials at the right time—whether you’re starting something new, finishing something big, or pushing a prototype further.

Grant Details

  • Awards up to $300 in materials, typically ordered and paid for by the Foundry.

  • Most grants range from $100–$150, depending on project scope.

  • This is not a reimbursement program—the Foundry places the orders for you.

Project Fit

Successful projects typically:

  • Explore something new to you—an idea, method, or materials you haven’t tried before.

  • Make use of the Foundry’s spaces, tools, or collaborative culture.

  • Align with the Foundry’s mission: interdisciplinary prototyping across BOW campuses and cultures.

Projects can be class-based, personal, or venture-related—we just want to support the momentum of your making.

Deadlines

  • October 1 — Fall semester and year-long projects

  • February 15 — Spring semester projects

If You’re Selected

You agree to:

  • Document your project journey with photos, videos, and a short recap (written or video).

  • Allow your work to be shared through Foundry blog posts, social media, or in-space displays.

  • Participate in a short interview about your process (or contribute a brief write-up).

Any leftover materials at the end of your project will remain in the Foundry for other students to use.

Thinking Bigger?

If your project requires a larger budget or a team approach, consider applying to the Foundry Fellowship, our flagship interdisciplinary prototyping program.
